First up, introduce yourself and your business, where are you from, what do you do and why?
Hi my name is Ashlee Black, Founder of Ashanoir Cosmetics.
I am from The Whitsundays which is located North Queensland Australia, I haven’t been here my whole life though I grow up in a town 2 hours north of Sydney named Newcastle, beautiful beachy Newy is my home and where my passion for what I do now all began. Ashanoir Cosmetics is a cosmetics company designed by a professional makeup artist for makeup artists, rookie makeup users & everyone in between! I have a passion for makeup, creating beautiful faces & teaching makeup skills & I truly believe makeup is something much, much more than a product on a shelf in pretty packaging…
How did you get started? What was the turning point?
I started 18 months before I launched my first product, I took all the time I needed to create what I thought at the time was the right product, for the right market and that was something I adored, looking back now the design makes me laugh, although I do find comfort in knowing that like myself many other producers & or designers also have a laugh at the first product they released.
“If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late” - Reid Hoffman
What did you do prior to your current business?
I worked for an amazing Australian makeup company, Napoleon Perdis as a National Trainer.
What do you love the most about your business and what you do?
I love being about to be involved in every aspect, the product design, marketing, distributing & frontline. I love being able to supply a product to women and men all over the world that brings such joy and confidence!
What are your future plans? Short or long, which ever you would like to share?
GROW, GROW, GROW!
Who do you find inspirational or what do you do to find inspiration?
I am extremely inspired by raw images, I think working back stage in my previous role has worn off on me significantly as an artist and I am absolutely obsessed with editorial designers, photographers & makeup artists.
And to close, what have you learnt on your journey? If there was one piece of advice you could give your fellow entrepreneurial ladies, what would it be?
Research as much as you can about the market that you’re going in to, be obsessed with learning, I absolutely crave it and make sure it’s your absolute passion because nobody goes in to business at the start and works less!
